Hi, I’m C.J. Riley. I write stories about resilience, rebellion, and the power of hope. These stories remind us that no matter how dark life becomes, there’s always a way forward.
My debut novel, From Shadows to Light: A Story of Hope, originated from both memory and imagination. It emerged from the space where they intersect. It’s where fiction and lived experience meet. It tells the story of Danny Miller. He is a soldier returning home to face the battles that can’t be fought with weapons. It’s a story of pain, love, and transformation, of finding meaning in the aftermath of loss.
When I began writing From Shadows to Light, I didn’t set out just to tell a war story. I wanted to explore what comes after. The quiet struggle to rebuild. The need to rediscover connection, purpose, and strength when the world feels like it’s fallen apart. Veterans, families, and everyday readers have reached out to express the book’s deep resonance with them. That means everything to me.
But storytelling, for me, has always been about more than one world. From Shadows to Light explores healing on a personal level. My new universe — The Resistance Series — explores healing on a societal level. Books like A Trickster’s War present important themes. The Resistance Files closely examines the repercussions when humanity faces control, censorship, and corruption. They depict what happens when people choose to fight back. It’s a dystopian world filled with danger, technology, and defiance. At its heart, it is still about people. It focuses on courage, unity, and the will to rise when the system wants you silent.
Through my weekly newsletter, The Resistance Files, I share updates on my writing. I also provide exclusive behind-the-scenes content. Additionally, I offer messages of hope for those fighting their own battles. It’s part story and part movement. It is a place where readers can connect and reflect. It helps them remember that even small acts of courage can change everything.
Writing has taught me that storytelling isn’t just entertainment, it’s healing. It’s rebellion. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest times, we’re never truly alone.
